The drone shot down over Latvia on August 14 entered from Belarus, and Latvia will keep intercepting and destroying drones that violate its airspace — but it does not yet have enough counter-drone systems or radar along its border, and will deploy domestically produced equipment across its entire frontier with Russia and Belarus by the end of September.
Unverified. On September 30 Melnis said interceptors and radar had been deployed along both borders (RFE/RL), but that is the minister's own account of his pledge. No independent source confirms full-border coverage or Latvian-made equipment, and on October 15 Business Insider still described the automated border as being built.
