Pete Hegseth

person · United States Secretary of DefenseCredibility: 42%

Why this score? Senior US political appointee; a same-cycle denial of interceptor depletion was contradicted by reported stockpile figures, so a guarded baseline pending track record.

Tracked Statements (1)

US Patriot and THAAD interceptor stockpiles are not significantly depleted; a CNN report to that effect is 'fake news'.

Context: False. CSIS estimates US Patriot interceptor stocks fell from 2,330 before the Iran war to between 759 and 827 — a drop of at least 65% — and THAAD by at least 38%. The Pentagon's own conduct contradicts the denial: on 6 August the deputy defense secretary gave contractors 21 days to submit plans to dramatically accelerate munitions production, writing that 'years-long development cycles are not acceptable.'
