Andy Burnham

government officialCredibility: 60%

Why this score? British prime minister, in office one week at the time of this cycle. Head of government, so his commitments are authoritative statements of UK policy, but he enters this record with no track record on it.

Tracked Statements (1)

You are the first leader I have welcomed in person since taking office, and that is no accident. It is intended to send a very clear message: we are with Ukraine 100%, I am personally with you 100%, and I will honor every commitment this country has made to Ukraine in full.?

Context: A pledge made on Burnham's first week in office and his first meeting with a foreign leader, recorded here as a forward-looking commitment rather than a checkable past fact. The concrete commitment it inherits is published by his own government in the same release: £3 billion a year in military support to Ukraine 'for as long as it takes', within total UK support of £25 billion since the full-scale invasion. Nothing yet contradicts it — the visit itself, and the transfer of the Stone Cloak intellectual property, are consistent with continuity. Note that Burnham's predecessor's commitments included the January 2024 UK-Ukraine Agreement on Security Co-operation and the 100 Year Partnership, but not a position on the timing of Ukraine's NATO accession, which he did not address.
